Fairy Tales

(Rusalka is a mermaid-like creature who was believed to be the ghost of a female who either drowned or was killed by the one she loved)

(This is one of my favorites, it's by Viktor Vasnetsov who did a lot of mythological paintings)

(Firebird)

(Domovoj, or the House Spirit)

(One of the bogatyrs, a medieval heroic warrior, similar to a knight)

(Vasilisa the Beautiful was a part of the Baba Yaga fairy tales)

(This is "Baba Yaga" or the old hag. If you misbehaved when you were little, you were told that she would come after you. She lived in the woods in the old hut that had chicken legs.)

(Snegurachka or Snow Maiden is Grandpa Frost's (equivalent to Santa) daughter)

to be continued..

Absolutely awesome. You should do an entire post on Baba Yaga. She scares the heebie jeebies out of me. I spent an entire year obsessing over Mussourgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition, especially the Baba Yaga movement.

Love your picture! She didn't used to scare me so much, there were versions where she was just a foolish old hag who always got tricked by the hero, so you almost had to feel bad for her. Now Koschei the Immortal was terrifying to me. He's the ugly evil man who could never die and he was always after young girls. He is in the first picture of Fairy Tales III.
